Apple’s ‘Pro and Tell’ event on 28 October: what to expect, and what is only rumour

Apple has confirmed an event called ‘Pro and Tell’ for 28 October. What is official, what the rumours say about touchscreen MacBook Pros, M6 Macs and an OLED iPad mini, and what we do not know.

Apple has confirmed an event called “Pro and Tell” for Wednesday 28 October, in Los Angeles. It is the first time we have a date for what is widely expected to be a Mac-focused showing, but Apple has said nothing about what it will announce.

Here is what is official, what is rumour, and what nobody outside Apple knows yet.

What Apple has confirmed

According to Engadget and Stuff, the event is called “Pro and Tell” and takes place in Los Angeles on 28 October. Stuff says it starts at 10am local time, which is 5pm in the UK. Engadget describes it as an all-day affair and does not give a time, so check Apple’s invitation for the exact schedule. Press and influencers have been invited.

It is Apple’s third product event of the season, following a showcase focused on the smart home, Engadget notes. Apple’s marketing chief, Greg Joswiak, teased it on social media: “Can’t wait to pro and tell next week.”

Stuff points out that the UK clocks go back earlier than the US ones, which changes the usual time gap: on that date the event starts at 5pm in the UK, which is 1pm on the US East Coast. We have not opened Apple’s own invitation, and neither report says whether the event will be streamed.

What the rumours say

Nothing below has been confirmed by Apple. The sources are Mark Gurman of Bloomberg, who repeated his earlier reporting on X, and the two outlets’ own expectations.

The reports differ on the details. Engadget says the M6 debuted in August in the latest Mac mini, and that the new Macs would use it. Stuff says the touchscreen MacBook Pro is expected to use M5-series chips, and that Apple could launch an iMac and a base 14-inch MacBook Pro with M6 chips, without naming a source for that.

Stuff says the event’s name suggests MacBook Pros are a given, and that the touchscreen MacBook Pro is the most widely expected product. Engadget links to its own earlier reporting on a touchscreen MacBook, a lighter OLED MacBook Pro, an OLED iPad mini and the M6 Mac mini; we have not opened those articles.

What we do not know

There are no prices and no release dates in any of the reports. We also do not know which of these products, if any, will be announced, or whether they will go on sale in the UK at the same time as in the US. For UK buyers, pounds-and-pence prices will only be known after the event.

What to do if you are thinking of buying

If you were planning to buy a MacBook Pro or an iPad mini, the practical question is whether to wait for 28 October. We cannot say whether new models will be better for you. What we can say is that Apple has now told people to expect something at the event, and that rumours say it involves Macs and an iPad.

Questions we will answer once Apple has spoken:

  • Is there a touchscreen MacBook Pro, and what does it cost in the UK?
  • Which chips do the new Macs use, and do they match the rumours?
  • Does the iPad mini get an OLED display, and when can you buy it?
  • What are the UK release dates?

What we will do

We will publish a full guide with specifications and UK prices after the event, once Apple has said what it is releasing. Until then, treat everything on the rumour list as unconfirmed.
